October 2023

October has brought that perfect blend of more sunshine during our days, while enjoying the calm before the storm as the end of year period is nearly upon us.

A few exciting things happened at The Companion Group this month, check them out below:

Participant Snapshot

This week we hit the beach with Che, coffee in hand and enjoying a leisurely stroll in the sun. At The Companion Group we value time with all our participants, but as one of our longest standing, and dare I say.. cheekiest, companions, we can say we thoroughly enjoy the privilege of supporting Che on his community adventures and look forward to many more wonderful beach days.

TCG hired a new Support Coordinator!

This month I had the honour of onboarding our newest office staff member Emily! Emily will be joining the team with our Superstar Senior-Support Coordinator Sam, and we couldn’t be happier to expand the Support Coordination team. Emily has extensive experience navigating the NDIS including tackling Plan Management and Support Coordination. In her short time with us Emily has shown she loves a laugh, has a heart of gold and is not afraid to advocate for our participants.

If you’re looking for a new Support Coordinator, The Companion Group is open for new referrals. You can access our referral form here https://www.thecompaniongroup.org/referral

We can’t wait to see all the goals you kick in Support Coordination Emily!

5 years at TCG

Another one of our amazing Support Workers hit 5 years at TCG this month. Working with Glenn has been a pleasure, from his constantly optimistic attitude to his willingness to always help out the team. Just like us, participants have loved working with Glenn and you’ll often find him with a booked out roster. If you’re lucky though, we might be able to sneak you in.  Here’s what Glenn had to say about his time with us:

5 years at TCG, how do you feel about hitting the milestone?

Pretty good!

What have you liked about working with The Companion Group?

I like and appreciate the opportunity to be of value, to experience and interact with a diverse range of people in differing environments, and to see people enjoying themselves and making progress towards their goals.

The support from all levels of management is reassuring and appreciated. The flexibility in hours worked has been great for a more balanced life.

How have things changed since you started?

There are more set procedures and reporting systems in place as well as a greater emphasis on relevant qualifications, licences, and training.

Favourite memory with a participant?

A recent trip to listen to the MSO at the Arts Center in Melbourne was pretty special. The joy and excitement shown by the participant was quite something and I got to experience something I’d never done before as well.

Any advice for new support workers?

Undertake a relevant qualification if possible as I think greater governance is on the way.

Hope to see you with us for another 5 years Glenn!

That’s all for October, stay tuned for next month.
